Yarn Along

As always, I’m knitting along with Ginny of Small Things on Wednesday, and this week I’m wondering where my progress is.  Between blogging, managing my small Etsy shop and visiting with close friends (oh yeah, and caring for a baby and working!), I haven’t been knitting as much as I feel like I should have been.

I’m a little irritated with myself for putting knitting deadlines on myself.  I really want Nathan’s spring cardigan done before Easter so he can wear it to Easter dinner at my parents’ house, and I also want the knitted bunny done by Easter so Nathan will find it in his basket on Easter morning.  And I don’t want to be up really late the night before finishing either of them, or God forbid, both.

All I have to show for my work is a pile of cardigan pieces and two bunny legs.  The green matches Stuart's eyes.   Maybe I should use the leftover yarn for a collar or a hat.  Hah!

I guess the self-imposed deadlines aren’t really the problem—I started both of these projects a while ago and you’ve been looking at the meager progress week after week for…weeks.  The problem is I’ve bitten off a little more than I can chew, and I should just be used to it by now.  I still don’t have my garden beds to be where I want them for this time of year, I haven’t thinned my seedlings yet (or watered them in a while, for that matter), I have a Spring Chick to make for an order in the shop (yay!) and I have extra weight on my gut that’s not going anywhere without exercise.

And to use up even more of my dwindling free time, I joined a clay works and ceramics class that met last night for the first time.  It was SO MUCH FUN.  I’ve always wanted to work with clay, but I mostly joined the class to spend a little time outside the house without having to take Nathan with me.  It was fun and relaxing and I’m learning new skills.  It feels good to get away for a few hours, clear my head and not “be in charge” of Nathan and the house.  Plus, I got to bring home a pizza for dinner instead of rushing around beforehand to make dinner, and I still got to see Nathan before he conked out for the night.

Here's a preview of the goodies I made last night.  It was so fun to create in a new medium.  I'll give a better look at these pieces after they're glazed and out of the kiln.
I pressed pause on Oprah’s Biography and started the Friday Night Knitting Club, a book loan and recommendation from a very good friend.  So far, so good!  It seems like it’ll be a good people story—one of my favorite kinds.  And if I’m not knitting, the next best thing is to read about people who are.

Good knitting,
Kelly

  1. How I loathe knitting deadlines which seem to strip so much of the fun out of the project. I hope you are suddenly struck with knitting fever (and loads of free time) to finish your projects in time.
Lovely ceramic pieces! I took a wheel throwing course a few years ago and loved it, too!

  2. Sounds like you are living a very full life! I do hope you accomplish your knitting in time for Easter. If you just set it out and do a few stitches here and there I think you'll be surprised at how fast it will knit. Good luck.

  8. Hi there. I am new to your blog, over from Yarn Along. What a beautiful space and beautiful creations (not just here, but on your sidebar, too). If only there were more hours in the day for all the fun things...

  9. I gave myself an Easter deadline too. I failed miserably. I had to frog the whole thing. Sigh.
