Yarn Along

There’s good news and bad news. The bad news first: The Camilla mittens are turning out to be child-sized because my gauge is way off. I don’t know how it happened—my swatch was spot on—but apparently I don’t get the joy of knitting anything on needles smaller than size 2. I was getting 11 sts/in on size 1 needles instead of 9 sts/in, which I probably would have gotten on size 2s. Sigh. So they won’t be my upcoming giveaway, unless a majority of you have tiny, girl-sized hands.  No?  I didn’t think so.  I’ll just have to think of something else to give away.

The good news is that my Snake Scarf is turning out rather awesomely. I gave a better sssssssneak peek yesterday.

I forgot to get my books in the shot this week. I’m reading an assortment of Yarn Harlot books, magazines and the Eleventh Plague by John Marr and John Baldwin.

I hope to have the snake done by next week's Yarn Along!  We'll see.

  8. I made a bunch of mittens like that for Christmas gifts this last year, my first one turned out way small too, even though I had actually taken the time to check my gauge. It was a different pattern, but the same technique. I had to up my needle size by 2 or 3 sizes to make it work for the other ones!

  9. Your mittens might have turned out too small, but they are so pretty! I've never seen a snake scarf, but it looks really nice.

  10. Thanks, everyone, for your comments on the snake scarf and mitten! (Note, there's only one mitten! But as soon as I find someone to give them to, I'll knit the second one to match.)

Gretchen, I will also have to go up probably two needle sizes when I try Jane's Cupcake Mittens next, too. Bummer it happened to you, too!

And about my finger, the five-pound bag of sugar fell from the cabinet a few weeks ago and I tried catching it, only to get my finger slammed between the sugar and the next shelf down. It was painful, and now I look like a carpenter!

  13. The mittens are still amazing, and I'm sure some little girl or boy will be very blessed by them. The snake scarf is really cool. Can't wait to see it finished.

I'm waiting for my first Yarn Harlot book to arrive, can't wait.

    Blessings, Elizabeth
