Yarn Along

The gift socks are almost complete!

UPDATE:  The pattern is Butterfly Socks from Wendy Johnson's Socks from the Toe Up and the yarn is Knit Picks' Stroll Tonal in Blue Yonder.  It's actually more turquoise than it appears in the photo and has better, more interesitng variagation, too.

I've been thinking about knitting different socks for the different seasons, using yarn colors and patterns as inspiration for each season.  And despite all the lace, the shades of turquoise on these socks make them suitable for a winter sock, in my book, anyway.  I hope they're warm for my intended giftee, even with all those holes in them.

I've recently been inspired by the one and only Yarn Harlot (hence the reason for rereading her first book, At Knit's End: Meditations for Women Who Knit Too Much) to start my own Self-Imposed-Sock-Club.  Her Self-Imposed-Sock Club meant knitting one sock per month, and I think she always came through, even if it meant feverishly knitting the second sock on the last day of the month, jamming it somewhere among her really busy life.  I think I like this idea (for now, at least), since I love knitting socks and I know a lot of people (myself included), who'd like to wear them.

I'll still knit them with the seasons, even if socks won't be worn much in summer.  I can still wear them in the winter, and think of summer while I'm wearing them.  And, if I'm pressed for time, I can always quickly knit little socks for my little one.

Let it be a sock-filled 2011!
